My quiet corner of the web

Below is a listing of some free-ware apps that I am commonly requested to share.  I do not host the software, but rather link to the publisher’s downloads page, in order to ensure that a) you are sure to get an unmodified file, and b) you are sure to get the most recent version of the software.  I do not perform support via this website, so if you have any issues regarding this software, please contact the publisher.

Security Software:

Notes:
¹ Microsoft Security Essential is a free AntiVirus program from Microsoft. I currently prefer it over AVG Free edition because in recent tests it has proven to be more effective and I have noticed that it is runs faster than AVG. If you install Microsoft Security Essentials, I recommend you uninstall AVG (if it was previously installed) and only have Microsoft Security Essentials installed and running.

Notes:
¹ I recommend Foxit PDF Reader as a free alternative to Adobe Reader. Foxit Reader is faster, and has fewer security vulnerabilities on average when compared to Adobe Reader.
² If you can afford Microsoft Office Suite, I highly recommend it over OpenOffice. OpenOffice is a fine tool for anybody who cannot get a copy of Microsoft Office, however it is not as fully featured and not as easy to use. Still, if you cannot afford Microsoft Office, or do not feel you need something so fully featured, this is the only substitution to it that I recommend.
